Trying to open a bank form on a MacBook.

I have confirmed that I have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and added the website as a trusted host under security preferences.     I have a MacBook using 10.12 Sierra and Safari 10.1.   I think the problem might be that MacBooks are considered a mobile IOS device so I should be using a different version of Adobe?    Thanks,

Bruce

Apple Preview can't display this form. Save the form to the local disc and open it with Acrobat Reader.

No, a MacBook is not a mobile device. Mobile devices are phones, tablets, etc. The version of Adobe Acrobat Reader is fine.

But you haven't said what your problem is, if any?

Sorry.   After clicking on the form to open it, I receive the following error message:    "The document you are trying to load requires Adobe Reader 8 or higher. You may not have the Adobe Reader installed or your viewing environment may not be properly configured to use Adobe Reader".

I confirmed I had the most recent version of Adobe Reader and that it was higher than 8.    I read some material on configuring my viewing environment, which lead me to the security preferences and adding the bank's website domain to the list of trusted hosts.

Thanks,

Bruce

Based on the error message, Adobe is the default program that the form is trying to use.    Apple Preview is not trying to open it.  I am calling the bank today and see if they have any advice on "configuring my viewing environment".   I'll post their response.

Apple Preview displays this message, not Acrobat Reader.

Open the Finder and right-click (or control-click) any PDF. Change it to

Open with: Adobe Acrobat Reader

AND

Use this application to open all documents like this one: Change All...

If it already says Reader, then it's another issue, but check that first.

The message means nothing of the kind. To see what app you are actually using don't guess, it's right there on screen. Look on the menu bar, at the top, immediately to the right of the Apple icon.

What does it say when you get the message? Don't jump from what it says to what you expect... Which is easily done

Thanks for the last 3-4 comments everyone - they were helpful.  And thanks for your patience with a newbie.      My first problem was that I was not downloading the file to my local disc.   I was just letting the file try and open from the website link and stopping there.   Once I downloaded the file, I learned that the bank's link was not connected to a .pdf version of the form, and was instead sending me an .html version of the form.

They have corrected their link and now a .pdf version of the form downloads and I can right click on the file and open it in either adobe or Apple Preview.

Thanks and we can mark this is "closed".    Bruce
