Whenever I draw on a PDF it stops drawing the moment I lift my pen up

I have always been able to draw as much as I want on my PDF but recently whenever I lift tup my pen it reverts back to the selection tool.

For example if I want to draw a word: after I draw the first letter and lift up my pen I cannot keep drawing the rest of the letters of the word. It just selects the letter I have drawn and lets me move it or delete it.

I have the same issue...I used to be able to free draw, but this must have changed with a recent update.  I select the drawing tool to use with my bamboo pen, but when I lift my pen it reverts to the selection tool.  Very frustrating to keep selecting the drawing tool to spell each letter of a word.  I have windows 11 and using latest version of Adobe Pro (this new version does not show any toolbars at the top).  This new version of Adobe Pro does not show the version under "help" anymore...how do I know my version?
