what is the point of receiving a PDF if you can't edit it ?
and why would that be a premium feature?

It's useful to know, perhaps, that Adobe have always made and sell Acrobat for people who want to do serious work with PDFs. The free Acrobat Reader is just to get people interested, so they can sell products. If many people want to edit, this seems an argument for charging for it, not for giving it away - if you are running a company wanting a profit, that is...
You should also note that PDFs are really very unsatisfactory for editing; people who do get Acrobat often find themselves disappointed. This answer may disappoint you, but I thought you might find this useful to know.
