I am unable to highlight text within a PDF file that is sent by my professor on the application. What should I do? I am using the ipad pro. Can someone recommend what to do? Thank you.

Bernd,

So, I tried another article and the lock came up, so the document can't be highlighted. I now understand what you meant.

Are you using Adobe Acrobat or are you using Adobe Acrobat Reader?

Can you select individual lines/words in the document with the select tool? If not, could be that the pdf is composed of a scanned image.

Graffiti,

I'm using Adobe Acrobat and when I try to select a text the options that appear are: Note, Text, and Freehand. If I click on the bottom, and click highlighter nothing happens.

I'm not sure exactly what tool you are using but you shouldn't get that using the "select tool". If it's a scan, you would just be able to click once and the entire document would be selected and turn blue or you could click-drag and it would create a blue box.

If the document is a scanned document without OCRed, then you are not able to highlight any text.

To OCR the document, open the document in Acrobat Pro DC,

1. In Toolbar bar, click "Tools"

2. Select "Enhance Scans"

3. In "Enhance Scans" Toolbar, select "Recognize Text"->"In This File"

4. In "Enhance Scans" 2nd Toolbar, click the "Settings" button

5. In "Recognized Text" dialog, select desired language in "Document Language" drop-down list, then click "OK" button

6. In "Enhance Scans" 2nd Toolbar, click the "Recognized Text" button

7. Saved the document

Now, the document should be OCRed and you should be able to highlight any text.

Hope this help.
