I found the markup screen and can highlight text, but I can't select it. I wanted to copy the text to a Word doc, but I can't even figure out how to select it.

Hi Jpn,
In Adobe Acrobat Reader, open the PDF.
Then press and hold the text that you need to select.
Once the text is selected, the option to copy, highlight, strikethrough, underline and define appear at the top of the selected text.
Select the "Copy" and it will save it on the clipboard.
Now you can paste the copied text on your Word document.
Hope that helps.

It doesn't work to select and copy text. Only options are comment and edit. Totally useless app if this doesn't work

Sorry to hear about your experience.
Are you using a scanned document converted to PDF? If that is the case, then the application captures it as an image instead of a text file which does not allow you to select the text.
If you are trying to copy text from a simple PDF document and cannot, please share the PDF to reproduce the issue at our end to further understand the issue.
Look forward to hearing from you.
