Documents created or "touched" with Acrobat DC cannot be viewed or opened on iOS - even with Adobe's iOS apps. Please fix this.

Using iOS 11.4.1. Attempting to open the pdf as a mail attachment, or a file in Dropbox/iCloud Drive with Adobe Acrobat reader for iOS yields a message stating “This form requires Adobe Acrobat Reader DC for Mac or Windows.”

How exactly did you make this PDF? Or is it one that was sent to you? This message is normal for some PDFs, and just true. But you said "touched", what does that mean?

"Touched" turns out to be opened and saved.

Yes, I'm aware that Adobe Reader iOS can't currently open Dynamic Content.

Query: What will it take to "motivate" Adobe upgrade Adobe Reader iOS to read PDFs with Dynamic Content?

Hi RCAMac,

Sorry for the delay in response.

As you have mentioned above, the PDF is not opening in the Adobe Acrobat Reader for an iOS device.

Are you still experiencing the issue?

If yes, try this: If you can open the PDF in Acrobat on the desktop, try to upload the PDF on Document Cloud.

Then try to open the PDF from the Document Cloud tab on the mobile application.

Check if that helps.

Could you please confirm if it is an issue with a particular PDF?

It may the PDF-specific issue.

Is it possible to share the PDF with us, so we can check it on our end?

You can share the PDF using the steps mentioned in this help link How to share a file using Adobe Document Cloud.

Let us know if you need any help or have any question.

Regards,

Meenakshi

Thank you for your response.

Adobe Cloud is probably going to be very challenging for many PDF senders (providers), as well as PDF recipients. The solution is clear: Adobe should produce (or contract with an iOS developer to produc) an iOS app capable of reading Dynamic Content.

That said, here’s the file. The “reading” issue occurs with many (all?) PDF the contain Dynamic Content.

Hi there:

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I can share the document — it’s attached to this email.

Regarding opening on desktop and saving to Document Cloud…

I currently work at the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES). That solution is is not practical or doable for for Emergency Responders out in the field using just their phone or iPad.

Additionally, that type of solution won’t work for most folks that are “less technical” or “adept” at switching between computer and iOS device including a large elderly demographic of iOS users.

I appreciate your assistance and attention to this problem.

Thank you.

I agree with RCAMac. What you suggested is not practical. will there be a better solution? There are more and more files that i am receiving is not possible to view on Iphone or iPad except on a computer and I know many people are experiencing the same issues. This makes it really hard to work with.

Opening and saving a PDF should not ever change it from "can open" to "cannot open".

You won't motivate them to do that. They have said they won't do it. Instead, they sell a server product to dynamically convert XFA forms to HTML5 forms.

Dynamic content cannot be created with Acrobat DC, so I don't see how this can be the original problem.

The number of files should diminish as Adobe is phasing out the software used to make them.
