VoiceOver, how to read all the pages in a PDF document?

I am using VoiceOver to read a PDF document, and I am able to read out loud from the top to the bottom of a page.

Is there a way to use VoiceOver to continue reading page after page until the end of the PDF document?

Read to End of Document is a Read-Out-Loud feature of the Acrobat Reader for Windows, and it would be a very helpful feature on iPhones. Thanks. -Bill

Hi Bill,

This is a known issue that Acrobat iOS does not have a way to read an entire document by VoiceOver with a single gesture. Currently you would need to do a two finger swipe down in each page to read the contents of that page and flip to the next page, where you have to repeat the gesture.

We plan to add the feature of reading the entire document with one gesture in the future.

Thank you for reporting the issue.

Hi BillNYC,

The VoiceOver is an iOS built-in screen reader.

It may not be able to continue reading the document to the end because it reads all the buttons and other controls that you select on the screen.

You may request for the text-to-speech feature in application here: Feature Request/Bug Report Form

Regards,

Meenakshi

No, the built-in accessibility features of VoiceOver are fine for the most part. The issue lies with Adobe Acrobat's failure to allow the operating system's accesibility features to function making the application less inaccessible to users with limted vision. Acrobat does not need to create a "read aloud feature" instead it needs to ensure that users can use their assistive technology with Adobe's software on this platform. It is more than just reading a document from begining to end. It means being able to navigate key landmarks in a correctluy formated PDF document, interacting with content if that is part of the document's intent (forms) or logically naviagte complex layouts. Users of Assistive Technology (AT) have already acquired the skills to navigate their devices or are in the process of extending those skills.  There is pleanty of documentaion and stategies for developing accessible application for Apple devices—Adobe needs to make the decision to actually code for VoiceOver users. Adobe should not ignore their legal obligation to ensure their products are accessible on platforms they develop for.

I notice that Read Out Loud is now a feature of Adobe Acrobat for Android, and it recognizes tagged text and works well.

I don't see the feature on my Adobe Acrobat for iPad. Is this feature planned for Adobe Acrobat on the iPhone and iPad?
