Thanks David,

I did check the file associations and did a repair and uninstall/re-install and nothing worked but it turned out to be an issue with turning on a security policy in Symantec Endpoint that was causing Adobe to not open so I had to remove that policy in order for Adobe to work again.

Thanks,

Chris

Yuvraj:

Is your solution applicable to Acrobat X on a Windows 7 machine?

I cannot find either "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" or "ddeexec" anywhere on this Windows 7 machine.

Chat Support is apparently not an option, since CS6 is no longer supported via Chat Support.

All Windows computers have HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT but your question shows you don't know how to work with the registry. The registry is DANGEROUS and messing it up can leave you with a computer that cannot be booted or repaired. Don't guess, search, or poke around! Seek hands on help from someone who knows how to do this, how to backup the registry, and how to repair it if broken.

Test:

I appreciate your reply and your warning. I certainly do not want to be left with a computer that cannot be booted or repaired.

That having been said, I still have a CS6 version of Acrobat that will not run on a Windows 7 machine. It appears that the suggested 'fix' for this issue is not something for a layman to dabble in -- as a result, the 'fix' is quite worthless.

Do YOU have any suggestions on how I can get Acrobat running again, without causing issues with my machine? Adobe apparently has no interest in finding a [safe] resolution to this issue for me.

Hello Everyone.
I just encountered this problem myself. It occuered as soon as I uninstalled Adobe Air. I reinstalled Adobe Air and the problem was solved.
I am running windows 7 and I am using Acrobat X Pro; hopefuly this solution will work for you as well.

Cheers.

I fought with this problem for months. Whenever I thought I'd solved it, it came back a week later.

So I changed to Sumatra PDF. Now I am happy.

Using Acrobat 9 Professional, all the above solutions had no impact on the DDE fatal error message on my computer running Windows 7 Ultimate. However, turning of User Account Control (UAC) in Windows 7 removed the problem.

I finally got it working on my computer by performing the following:

Created a new Windows User account with Admin privileges, and logged in as that user.

This time when launching Acrobat - It hung on the splash screen with "FusionPro" initializing.

I then removed my license from FusionPro, and Acrobat X Pro FINALLY OPENED!!!

I then was able to re-license FusionPro, and Acrobat X Pro is STILL WORKING!

Fixed.

The problem developed for me suddenly last night, I'm not a 'computer savvy' person so would appreciate basic steps to fix the issue as I use pdfs all the time.  Am I best to call in an IT specialist?

This is a joke........i have 3 pc's in our organisation that have all started doing this.

You want people to use your product Adobe? How about a fix, or at some decent commentary on how to resolved it.

Not sure if this helps, but had a few PC's start to do this (Windows 7 w\ Adobe DC).

I checked the registry like others have suggested, no luck, already "R".

I ran repairs and not help.

Then I checked Task Manager and saw several instances of "Acrord32.exe" Cleared all of these and Adobe has started working again.

hope this helps.

This doesn't work on my pc's......I clear the Acrord32.exe.

I can then open another PDF, but Acrord32.exe stays in TaskManager after I close it.

I am then unable to open another PDF.  Rinse and repeat.  Not a solution.

I have also tried :

- uninstalling and reinstalling Acrobat.

- Repairing the installation

I have just installed Adobe Air.......will see if this helps.

Otherwise, I will be looking for another PDF reader. 😞

I have windows 10. The initial problem was when I type in a PDF form using Acrobat Reader, there was no visible text, and after I did an installation check on the Windows Uninstal Program page, i got DDE error. Then I got this same error when I try again to open Acrobat Reader. Couldn't uninstal. So i looked in the task Manager as was suggested, and there were entries for Acrobat Reader (just that, not Acord32.exe) so I deleted them. Then I could uninstal, and I am not going to reinstal. Too problematic for me, and not worth the messiness.

I am also having this issue and it's costing me a lot of time, have tried uninstalling reinstalling multiple times and it gets Acrobat working for a period before I face the same issue again. Seriously considering cancelling my license and switching to Nitro as this is becoming a joke.

What exact version of Acrobat do you have (for example 2016.123.64002) as shown by Help > About? Are you trying to combine files like the original poster, or something else?
