Acrobat Reader DC stoped running and now will not run (open) on Windows 7 Pro.  Progam will "Run as adminsitrator", but that is no use.

Acrobat Reader DC was working OK for several years, but stopped  -   perhaps after most recent Reader update, but cannot be certain.

Removed and reinstalled several times, but no change.  I have tried every step sugested in reply by AnanaSri dated 2 May 2019 -  no change.     Adobe Acrobat Update Service is running.

Reader file name = AcroRd32.exe.  File number = 20.6.20042.43423.  Progam version = 20.6.20043.371103.

"Run as administrator" pop-up: "Cannot open in Protected Mode due to an incompatibility with system configuration".  Selected "No protected mode" and Reader runs.  Where to look now?   Some deleted service or corrupted registry entry perhaps??   Any help much appreciated.

Hi SemajG,

Firstly you can enable back protected mode back using following steps:

  1. Launch Reader
  2. OPen Edit->Preferences
  3. Open Security (Enhanced) preferences.
  4. Select the option Enable Protected Mode at startup.
  5. Click OK on the dialogs which appears.
  6. Close and launch Adobe Reader again.
  7. Issue will start appearing for you.

Can you please let me know the following:

  1. When you right click Reader and do Run As Administrator, does it run fine ?
  2. Is there any compatibility mode set . It can be checked via right click to Adobe Reader icon -> properties -> compatibility mode.
  3. Send process monitor logs.

Steps to send process monitor logs:

Thanks,

Shakti K

Thanks, Shakti.
I followed yor instructions (1 - 7).

"Open" does not run  -  no apparent response.

1. When you right click Reader and do Run As Administrator, does it run fine?  No.
Error: "Adobe Acrobat Readercannot open in Protected Mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration".

Chose "Open with Protect Mode disabled" to access program.

2. Is there any compatibility mode set?  No, none  set.

3. Process monitor logs are here:
