Adobe Reader fails to print intermittently for one user

We have 1 user on a terminal server who is having intermittent problems printing PDFs with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 19.012.20040. When this occurs, it affects all PDF documents but he has no problems printing in other programs. Since he is on a terminal server, removing/reinstalling Adobe Reader doesn't make sense, since it's working for all other users on this server and a reinstall would be on the server and apply to all users. What happens is he clicks on Print and then nothing happens. If he goes into Preferences, Documents, PDF/A View Mode and toggles the setting (either from "Never" to "Only for PDF/A documents" or back again to "Never"), then the document will print. Why would that fix printing for him? Should we consider deleting his user profile on the server? Would that fix this?

Hi Mauld-louie,

Apologies for the delay in response and the trouble caused.  As described above, you are experiencing issues while printing the file, correct?

Please try the troubleshooting steps below:

  • Please white list the file and the folder path in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Go to Edit > Preference > Enhanced Security > Add file  and Add Folder path > Click OK and check.

If it still doesn't work,

  • Please download the file locally to your computer and Right Click on the file > Print and check.

If it still does't work,

  • Please download the file locally to your computer and Right Click on the file > Open with Chrome and try printing from the chrome and check if that works for you.

Let us know how it goes

Regards,

Amal

We basically already did the first 2 options as I had the user save the file under a different name (it was already a local file on his PC). When this happens, he has the issue with all PDF files, not just a single one. The only thing we haven't tried is printing from Chrome.

The problem has not recurred for the user since I posted this so we will just have to leave it alone for now (and hope the problem doesn't come back). The user does not want us to mess with anything since it's working now.
