Adobe Reader "file not found error" with Firefox

I have a client who is running into an odd issue with PDFs. If he tries to download and open in Adobe Reader automatically, some PDFs fail.

For instance, when he tries to open PDFs from https://nslegislature.ca/legislative-business/bills-statutes/consolidated-public-statutes it tries to open but then Acrobat Reader gives the error "File not found".

If he right clicks and saves the file to disk, then the PDF opens fine in Reader.

I tried some other sites, and those PDFs opened fine, but it appears to be an issue with larger PDFs.

Is this a Firefox issue or a Reader issue?

Hey there,

I believe you are unable to open PDFs in web browser only from this particular site, as rest all are working fine?

Did you try to open PDFs from https://nslegislature.ca/legislative-business/bills-statutes/consolidated-public-statutes using a different web browser (like- Chrome, edge) than Firefox? It could be a possibility, this PDF content doesn't allow to display on web. It only works when its downloaded or saved loaclly on your system?

  1. I tried to reproduce the same at my end, it would be easier if you just tell me where exactly PDFs are placed on this page? https://nslegislature.ca/legislative-business/bills-statutes/consolidated-public-statutes it has huge content.
  2. Also, make sure that your browser plugin is enabled to display pdfs on web.
  • Go to setting (3 bars) > options > applications.
  • Under applications panel.
  • Find Portable Document Format (PDF) in the list and click on it to select it.
  • Click on the drop-down arrow in the Action column for the above entry and select Use PDF reader name (in Firefox) or preview in firefox

Let us know if it still doesn't work.

Thanks,

Akanchha
