Hello All,

Bit of a niche issue so I apologise in advance! I am currently working with a terminal server environment which has both Adobe Acrobat installed and Adobe Reader. By default, users want Adobe Acrobat to be the default PDF viewer except for when accessing embedded Excel links which they would like to open using Adobe Reader.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Kind Regards,

Ryan

Hi IndigoRyan,

Thanks for reaching out. As described above, you want Adobe Reader to be the alternate PDF viewer, correct?

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is a sub set of Adobe Acrobat DC. Once you select an application to be the default PDF viewer the settings apply to all the PDF files and we can not have the alternate PDF viewer by default. However, you may open a particular PDF file with Adobe Reader by selecting the file manually. Select the File  > Right Click > Open with > Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

Hope  this helps.

Regards,

Amal

Hi Amal,

Apologies for the confusion - The client has Acrobat DC installed alongside Reader XI.

They've made us aware that they previously had it so that Acrobat was used as the default program for opening PDF files but that embedded excel PDFs would open with Reader XI (this tends to have less compatibility issues with excel).

I likely think that an excel macro was potentially used to get it to open using Reader XI despite Acrobat being the default windows application.

Kind Regards,

Ryan
