Can't install reader

I have repeatedly tried to uninstall and reinstall Reader to no avail. Even had help from Adobe who suggested I post here. I've used cleaner and there doesn't appear to be Reader anywhere on my computer, but when trying to install I keep getting the error message: "Found a higher version Adobe Acrobat Reader in the installation location. Installation will terminate." Any help would be appreciated. I'm left using Preview or buying Pro.

Are you on a Mac or Windows machine and what is the version of the OS?

 

Please try the following steps and see if that works for you

 

 

Also make sure you remove the application from trash as well before reinstalling (For Mac Only)

 

You may also refer to the steps provided in the similar discussion https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-reader/installation-fails-found-higher-version/td-p/9502509?p... (For Mac) and see if that helps.

 

If it still doesnt work, please create a new test user profile with full admin rights or enable the root account in Mac and try installing the application there and check.

Thank you so much! After spending nearly three hours on this yesterday (on a Mac), emptying the trash did the trick!
