Cannot Open Any Document With Reader

Whenever I try to open a document, the cursor would change to the spinning circle for 2 seconds but the document never opens. So I uninstalled reader and installed the latest version. Still did not work. I tried to search for answers online and many of them said to uncheck the protected mode box in preferences. I can open the application but can't open any documents. So i opened Reader and clicked on preferences. The program did not respond for 5 seconds and it closed on its own. I also tried to repair it from the help tab. Finally I tried installing older versions like Reader X even that didn't solve the problem. I use Adobe Reader regularly and had no problems with it until today. What is my next option to try and fix this situation?

Try this:

Remove any traces of Reader with this tool: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Go here and download the proper version of your OS and install: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Thanks for the help but I'm still having the same problem. I ran the cleaning and then downloaded the appropriate version from the second link and installed it.

When i tried to open a document for the first time, I got this dialogue box.

Screenshot1.png

I selected the first option (Open reader with AppContainer disabled inside Protected Mode. Did not work. I can open Acrobat Reader from the icon but as soon as I try to open a file with File->Open or select any other option like Edit->Preferences, the program closes by itself. If i try to open a pdf from the desktop, the cursor spins for 5 seconds and nothing happens.

In that case, open Reader and go to edit>preferences>security (enhanced)>sandbox protections and disable "Run in AppContainer". If that doesn't clear it up, go back to the same spot and disable "Enable protected mode at startup".
