How do I create a password for a new document in Acrobat Reader.
A correction: these instructions are for paid-for Acrobat. The free Acrobat Reader can't set passwords; you need to pay for that. Equally, though, Reader can't make a new document.

Click on "File" --->>> select "Protect using Password".
You will be presented with a dialogue box that will let you choose what type of protections will be enforced. You'll be able to select protect from Viewing, in which case a user won't be able to open the file for viewing unless the password is known, oryou can choose to protect from editing. In the later case, the user can open and view the file but won't be able to perform any edits.
In the "Advanced Options" section you'll also be able to encrypt the document with password or with a digital certificate.
