Reader v21.001.20135. I've seen this on multiple computers owned by multiple different people. This version of Reader appears to be ignoring the following setting in Preferences, "Documents | Open Settings  | Remember current state of Tools Pane" Regardless of the state of the Tools Pane and the box is checked, Reader keeps opening with the Tools Pane displayed.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described, Reader appears to be ignoring the following setting to ''Remember current state of Tools Pane"

Please try to reboot the computer once and see if that helps.

If it still doesn't work, please try to repair the installation (Windows Only) Go to Help > Repair Installation and reboot again and check.

If it still doesn't work, please try to reset the Acrobat preferences to default as described in the help page https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792... and see if that works for you.

Regards

Amal

Rebooting, running the repair, nor a clean install fixes this same issue for me.  I noticed after the clean install that the ''Remember current state of Tools Pane" box unchecks itself once you close the program.  It remains checked once you select it until you close the program.

HI Comprev,

  • It may be possible that Compatibility Mode Settings are on for Adobe Acrobat Reader on your machine. Please follow the steps below to turn it off and then try your workflow
    • Right click on Acrobat Reader DC icon from the desktop and select ā€œPropertiesā€
    • Click on ā€œCompatibilityā€ tab and Turn off the Compatibility mode settings(by unSelecting the checkbox for Compatibility mode if it is already selected)
    • Relaunch Acrobat Reader DC and see if you get this Blue pop up menu again ?
You can also attach the snapshot of your Compatibility mode settings here to let us know further if it was previously Turned on ?
Let me know if that fixes your concerns ?

If after following the babove step still issue is repro at your end Please provide the below info to triage the issue at our end.

  • can you please provide the Acrobat Reader Registry hive to us.

you can goto Registry Editor, then Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\, Right Click on "DC" and export

Please feel free to reach out in case of any query.

Arpit,

Unchecking the "Compatibility mode" setting fixed my Tool Pane issue (thank you).  I am working through the same for the Navigation Pane on another Adobe support thread and so far no success with those recommendations.  Fortunately that pane only opens automatically for certain files and not every one.
