How do I disable automatic updates. I get Adobe updates from a 3rd party software and have set the adobe update service to disabled but as soon as adobe reader is opened it changes the service back to enabled.

Hi Darenw,

If I get it right, you are willing to disable the automatic update for Adobe Reader permanently and to disable it you have disabled the settings for 3rd party software through which you get the updates pushed?

In freeware Adobe Reader DC, automatic updates are enabled by default. Its a design behavior that cant be controlled by any settings.

If this would have been Acrobat DC (subscription service), then updates can be disabled by changing its preferences setting.
