Why Adobe Acrobat cannot open files with filename longer then 255 character?

We have a difficult folder structure, the path itself can be 240-250 character long.

After that with usual filenames path and name together is longer than 255 characters.

We use Windows 10 Pro, with NTFS, with long filename support enabled and I can open a Word DOCX file from the same folder but cannot open a PDF file with Acrobat.

We tried Foxit PDF reader and it works flawless. So it's not a Windows issue, Word and Foxit PDF works.

Will Adobe implement long filename support? Or we have to change all PDF reader to Foxit at the entire company?

We are using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2019.010.20064

Thanks for sharing the detailed information.

It's actually not a filename limit that is imposed by the operating system, but a path limit. Your path (that's all the directories plus your filename) can only be a certain length.

I've solved this issue mapping the file folder as a network drive or mapping a folder more closer to the file.

Adobe Acrobat and Reader official update (21.001.20135) containing the fix for this issue is now available.

This update will be automatically pushed to all existing installations of Acrobat and Reader. You may also manually trigger the update early by opening the application and going to Help > Check for Updates.
