We have recently upgraded to Adobe Reader DC. (Exact version is 2015.016.20039). Earlier we had Adobe 4.
We have been generating PDF documents for over 10 years. The document contains Table having around 12 columns. It also has data which is not inside a table.
The font being used is Helvetica 8.4. After upgrade to DC, issue was reported that search is not working for the data inside the table. On further investigation, we found the reason is that there is space between each character. So if we search with "r o p e l e e", it finds the word below.
For example if I copy paste one record from this table, it looks as follows (Note one space between each alphabet).
9/06/15 R o p e l e e , I L 5:49 PM 454- 9 1 7 - 2 6 3 6 1 $ - $ - $ -
Same is observed inside Adobe reader version 11.
NOTE: If the same document is opened inside Adobe version 4, this problem does not occur.
We have already verified that the feed to the pdf creation does not have any spaces between each character.
We uncompressed the pdf and checked it, and can see the text appearing without any spaces in there. So its related to the way the text is rendered by the new Acrobat Reader. We don’t have a way to change the behavior on how acrobat reader is rendering the text.
