Acrobat media player history & background.

It appears that sometime after Acrobat 6 or 7 Adobe added native video/audio playback in Reader. (No additional software needed.) I'm guessing they integrated the short-lived Adobe Media Player. Anyone know the history?

As it happens, Reader now handles embedded .mov files better than Quicktime 10! — more legacy codecs, including QTVR. (Thanks, Adobe!) Does anyone know where to find a list of the codecs handled?

Also, it appears that Reader for Windows never handled QTVR. Anyone know why?

Years ago, Adobe integrated Flash Player. As of version 11, they stopped integrating it and now require one to be installed in the system (so there is only one component to patch).
