Acrobat X pro automatically closes a few seconds after opening.  I have completely removed it and reinstalled it with the same problem.

Hi jamess60185041,

Could you please let me know the OS version on your system?

Does this happen with all the pdf files you try to open or with particular pdf files?

If the OS version you have is windows, you can try running this cleaner tool : Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Restart your system and then reinstall it from this link : Download Pro or Standard versions of Acrobat DC, XI, or X

Let us know if this helps.

Regards

Sarojini

I am running Windows 8.1. I have downloaded the cleaner tool and run it. I have reinstalled Acrobat X Pro from the link you provided and I still have exactly the same problem. It opens fine from any pdf file I select, but then shuts down and exits after a few seconds. It will also open fine without a pdf file from the Acrobat desktop icon, but closes and exits after a few seconds.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi James,

If Acrobat is closing on launch then it most likely related to licensing issue.

Please try the following steps:

1)Go to the Adobe PCD folder under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD and provide administrative privilleges.

2) Do the same with SL Cache under C:\Program Files \Common Files\Adobe\SLCache

3) Go to the Sl Store under C:\ProgramData\Adobe and give administrative privilleges there too.

Kindly use the url :-  http://www.wikihow.com/Change-File-Permissions-on-Windows-7 on how to set administrative privilleges.

4) Unhide all the hidden files and folder.

5) Delete all the files under the above mentioned folders

6) Launch Acrobat again and enter the serial.

Also we would require to analyse the amt3 log located in %temp% folder.

Regards,
Rave

Rave,

Since I'm having the same problem (see my reply above), I tried your suggestion on my Vista PC. I assume by "provide administrative privileges" you mean on the folder's Properties/Security tab, click on Administrators and make sure there's a check under Full Control/Allow. My steps below correspond to yours above.

1) My Adobe PCD folder already had Full control allowed for Admins (the Everyone group only has Read access, however)

2) I didn't find a folder named SL Cache

3) No SL Store folder either

4) Assume you meant on Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, click on "Show hidden files and folders". OK.

5) Deleted everything (1 folder and 1 file) in the Adobe PCD folder, but not the folder itself. Again, no SL Cache or SL Store folders.

6) Launched Acrobat Pro. No change -- window closes after about 8 seconds.

I've only seen a place to enter the serial number during the installation process. Is there another way to do that? I've (quickly) tried starting Acrobat Pro and selecting Help/Registration, but get connection failures despite good Internet connectivity and enabling JavaScript. Also, under Help/Activation, both Activation and Deactivation are grayed out.

Rave, I think you're on the right track, that this is a licensing issue. Maybe caused by a Windows or app update, or a new install. I do have an older machine/hard drive and have seen one or two quirky things in the past few months, so I'll try chkdsk and anything else I can think of. What else can you suggest?

Gary

I'm having the same problem with Acrobat 8.1.4 Pro on a Vista Home Premium 32 bit PC. Been working fine for years, and the only changes recently were OS security updates and some unrelated apps. But lately, when double clicking on a PDF file or the app itself, the main Acrobat window closes after 8 seconds. It may linger while pull-down menus are active or sub-windows are open, but then abruptly closes before I can do much.

I've tried Help/Repair Acrobat Installation. Uninstalled and reinstalled from the (original v8.0) CD. Ditto using the AcroPro80_efg.exe trial setup. Uninstalled Reader X, followed by another uninstall/reinstall from CD. I checked the given link for the Acrobat Cleaner Tool, but it's only for version 9 and later.

The 8 seconds is consistent and spooky. Any ideas out there?

Thanks!

Gary
