I purchased a new [Windows 7, 64 bit] computer in November. I uninstalled my Creative Suite 6 Web & Design from my old computer, and installed it on the new one. I have been asked for a serial number by several different Adobe programmes.
But Adobe Acrobat X Pro crashes every day, and sometimes several times a day. I now have the serial number stuck to my screen!
1) Rename cache.db
2) Reboot computer
3) Open Adobe Acrobat
4) Licence software link
5) Type my Adobe ID and login
6) Type my serial number.
It works a few times and then I have to go through the process again. It did this on the old computer also, but only every couple of months.
I have more than one Adobe ID, but I've tried others (I have older versions of Acrobat on the others).
From the forums I can see Acrobat X Pro is a very unstable programme and many people have similar problems. I tried several suggestions but most don't seem to be for Windows 7. I have tried the full reinstall. It lasted a couple of days more than usual. But every time I do it, there is a Gig of updates to the software within 24 hours and I only have so much data I'm allowed to download each month!
But does anyone have a solution?

Hi diannevolek,
Please try these steps:-
* Check whether is there any update available for the software after going through "Help > check for updates"
* Restore preferences :-
1.Choose Start, type reg edit in the Start Search, and then press Enter.
2.In the left pane of the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Adobe
3.Remove the Acrobat preferences registry entries.
* Check with the Acrobat compatibility, if its checked make it unchecked & check with run as administrator.
* From Acrobat help menu , repair the installation .
* try turning off the fire wall (any security ) services .
Also check with the different user account .For this refer to :- https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/create-local-administrator-account-windows.html
Let me know if it works .

Hi there,
Thank you for your assistance – this is driving me crazy.
1) There are no updates
2) Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Adobe/Adobe Acrobat/10 there is no folder called preferences (there is a folder called Preferences under Bridge?). There are about 20 folders (I have the entire Adobe Suite) but I can’t find Preferences in any of them as a key or data.
3) When I click on Adobe Acrobat X Pro under Control Panel, It offers only “Uninstall”, when I click on it is says “Removing programme”. There is no option to repair that I can see. I have uninstalled the programme previously and reinstalled. Possibly if I continue the uninstall it will offer the option later?
This afternoon, instead of clicking “Licence the software “after deleting the cache, I tried “start the trial” (which has 32 000 or so days). I have received a warning asking me to continue the Trial about an hour later. If it is still working in a few days I will try licencing it – that will at least tell me that the problem is with the licencing and not the installation.
When I purchase Adobe software, the seller registers it, and they use whatever email address they know. I know I have at least 2 Adobe IDs. I put the old ID address as an alternative email on the newer one. However the Web & Design version that had Acrobat X Pro is definitely on the dianne@intercomm.co.za <mailto:dianne@intercomm.co.za> ID.
You should think of a adding the functionality to join ID’s because I’m sure you have a lot of duplicates.
Please advise further!
Kind regards
Dianne

Hi Yatharth,
My Adobe crashes just after I receive the notification “Win a free gift and log in with your Adobe ID”.
Once or twice I have logged in straight away, but logging in itself did not make any difference.
Anything else I can do?
My Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro etc. are unaffected – and InDesign is able to make Acrobat print material. I just can’t check what I have created.
I also know that loading Acrobat Reader to bypass this causes huge problems with Acrobat. I did that on my old computer and I had to reinstall the entire Adobe Suite.
Kind regards
Dianne

Hi ,
Please refer to this KB article https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-windows.html
And check the behavior of the software.
