Acrobat X stopped working

New Here ,
Jul 14, 2016 Jul 14, 2016

I was using Acrobat X Pro until a week ago; now I cannot open PDF files and much less print into a PDF.
Uninstalled all Adobe software and reinstalled only Acrobat X Pro and now I can open some PDF files but other not.

Bottom line is I cannot print into a PDF at all.

Please help me resolve this problem.

Thank you,

Hi fernandom49615346 ,

Could you please tell what Operating System do you have - Windows/Mac?

Do you see any error message when trying to print?

From what application you are trying to print to pdf -Web Browser/MS Word?

Check if there is any updates available, Open Acrobat X>Help>Check for Updates...

Let us know about the results.

Thank You!

Shivam

Hi Shivam,

Thank you for the reply; I am still using Windows 7 and do not see any messages.

I open a Word document and try to print to a PDF file; the printer opens the printing window "Creating Adobe PDF (see below) and it gets stuck in those 4 progress bars. I will not progress anymore...

I also checked for updates already.

Hi ,

Could you please tell if you are able to print to PDF from Web Browser?

Could you please check if you have Adobe PDF as a printer in Devices and Printers.Press Start menu>Devices and Printers.

Try to perform the following steps :

1- If Adobe PDF is there ,try to set other printer as a default printer and then set Adobe PDF as default.

2- If step 1 doesn't fix the issue, try to change Adobe PDF printing preferences,Open any pdf in Acrobat>Print>select Adobe PDF from drop down>Properties. Under Adobe PDF Settings>Adobe PDF Output Folder>choose or browser to a specific folder,do not choose Prompt for Adobe PDF filename>OK

Hi, I tried every step you outlined above and still get the same results... I think I will have to resort to use an older restore point, where Acrobat X Pro was still working fine, unless you have another suggestion.

Thank you for your replies.

Ok, I used the removal tool, restarted the computer, reinstalled Acrobat X Pro only (no other options) and I still have the same problem:

PDF starts printing, it asks where to save the PDF file and it starts the process up until it gets stuck with the four bars as shown on the first image I uploaded here.... I am determined to make it work because I create PDF files often.

I believe there is something else than Acrobat causing this problem;o yur thoughts?

Try to print to file ,Acrobat>Print>Adobe PDF>Advanced>check Print to File>OK

If that doesn't work, check if AcroTray is running under background process. If not,go to Program Files>Adobe>Acrobat10.0>Acrobat>click on acrotray.exe

I also performed the second step you suggested above "If that doesn't work, check if AcroTray is running under background process. If not,go to Program Files>Adobe>Acrobat10.0>Acrobat>click on acrotray.exe" but nothing happened... I clicked and clicked on acrotray.exe but not a change, it is like if the executable file did not exist.

Try to disable Anti- Virus and check if you are able to create pdf.

if that doesn't work, create a new user account and then try to create a pdf.

Here is a link on how to create a new user account in Windows :https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13951/windows-create-user-account

So far, I've disabled the anti-virus and the result is the same:

I've created a new user, followed all other directions like checking off the font preference, etc. and it still does not print.

The same window, showing 4 bars of progress, then it does not do anything at all.
