I just installed my licensed copy of Acrobat 8 professional on a new laptop. I know it's old, but I know how to use it, use it daily, and don't have time to learn a newer version right now. I can't print to pdf, because of the adobepdf.dll error message. I worked with the Dell tech support guy and we found a fix which let the program install, but the port is blank when attempts are made to print to pdf.
Is there a way to correct this, that I can do myself? I don't want to do anything that could damage my new system.

Acrobat 8 Pro is not fully compatible with any version of Windows beyond Windows XP nor is it compatible with any 64-bit version of Windows.
If you do install Acrobat 8 Pro on Windows Vista or Windows 7, if you then let it update to Acrobat 8.1 Pro, the print to Adobe PDF functionality should be restored (the incompatibility was due to changes in Windows' print architecture). Beyond Windows 7 (i.e., Windows 8.x and Windows 10), it may or may not work with that update.

Assuming you have a new OS you have a serious compatibility issue, which can manifest itself in all kinds of features not working.
You need to decide what is more worth it to you, sticking with your old version but risking problems like that one, or moving on and getting a compatible version.

It has been a long time since Acrobat 8, but if I recall correctly, run Acrobat and under Help there should be a menu item to check for updates. Click on that and see if that invokes download and installation of the update to 8.1 or later!

I couldn't link to anything that might contain updates using Help in Acobat. I found a great reference when working with Dell support, and he tried those instructions. We thought it worked, but when we tried it, it wouldn't print to pdf. I subsequently found two options:
If you still have a serial key for it, this installs version 8.1.0:

I don't know enough to download all the files ftp files. I'm not opposed to buying new Acrobat software, but I don't have time to learn how to use a newer version. Acrobat 8.0 Pro does what I need and I know how to use it.
I've found other software that can fill in the gap between me using Acrobat to make forms and complete forms and then print to pdf, but why should I have to do anything but download an update? I find not being able to access the updates irritating. If you work for Adobe, please pass it on.
If you have any suggestions or instructions for loading the rtf files, please let me know.
