Am trying to re-install Acrobat Pro 9 (Includes Distiller) after Installing a new hard drive. iMac 27" 2009, ElCapitan 11.11.6. I have original dmg file. have also tried copying it from older back up. Same thing happens either way. It appears to load fine. When opening it asks for my password but not for its own serial No. It indicates that it is open but does not show full bar at top, only word Acrobat, and it does nothing? Was running fine prior to old disc crashing. On same operating System?
Not compatible doesn't mean it can't run (though sometimes it does mean that). It means it was never tested and don't be fixed; it often means people have seen odd and unpredictable issues.
Acrobat makes system changes, it is always most susceptible. Acribat DC is the current version. If the aim is to wind down the business completely, subscription may well be most cost effective.

1. Did you enter the system password OK?
2. What was in the DMG file?
3. What did you do with the contents of the DMG file?

Definetly used correct system password.
The dmg file contained Folder 1: "Acrobat Pro.app" "Acrobat Uninstaller.ap" "Acrobat Distiller App" "ReadMe.htm"
Folder 2: "Read Me". Folder 3: "Extras" in that Folder is Folderr "GB19030" in that folder anothe "Read Me"
When the open screen comes up it shows to drag it "Applications" . When you first try to Open Distiller, it asks if you want to load extras, I say yes. It appears to but it then proceeds as above to nowher.

Acrobat 9 is not compatible with El Capitan, AFAIK.

If it is not compatible, why was it running just fine on this same system right up until the crash where I had to replace the Hard Drive?
Also, I have reloaded, my "Illustrator CS4", "Photoshop CS4", "Indesign CS4" and "Bridge CS4" all same generation as Acrobat 9. All appear to be working fine (only remaining problem with any of them is that every time I go to save a Photoshop File I have to save with a new name and delete the old file. I expect that somebody has already solved that problem but I haven't yet spotted to solution on line.
If I can't get this running again, is there an alternative "Distiller and Acrobat" that can be purchased that will run. We are a small retirement 2 person retirement business, gradually scaling back to 0, thus long term rental software is out of the question. and these 2 programs are vital to me for control of file sizes, proofing etc.

I wonder if this is actually a copy of what was installed, rather than the original installer. There have been so many Adobe installers over the year it's hard to remember, but it did I think need installing. And indeed isn't certified for 10.11.
