Our HR department wants to have forms for the hire-e to fill out that can expand the text field so all can be seen and printed out without scrollbars or the type being too small to read. I am reading about subforms in Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 which I have not downloaded and do not know if I can get it for a MAC. Is it part of Acrobat?
LCD is not available for Mac computers, nor is it a part of Acrobat (any more).
You can create form fields in Acrobat. Not sure what you mean by "subforms", exactly, but you can't create dynamically expanding fields, no.

Thanks, you answered a good amount of the questions. In my search for making expandable text fields I came across tutorials for LCD and it mentioned using subforms to enclose the expandable fields. I can use a PC at work if needed but not sure if I can get LCD installed by our IT department ( I work at a school). I will have to get it and learn how to use it. You have helped me move forward. Thanks again.

Unless this feature is a must-have for you, I would advice against using LCD to create your forms.
It's much more complicated to create than an Acrobat form and much less universal. It won't work on any mobile devices, for example.
Also, you would need to purchase LCD separately, which can be quite expensive.
