Cannot Add Header/Footer to PDF Document

I created a PDF document by combining multiple PDF files. When attempting to add page numbers using "Add Header/Footer," I receive the message "An error was encountered while retrieving page content." I removed some project drawings (that are 24" x 36" size), assuming those were the culprit. Tried again, same result.

I searched for updates; received and installed one. Restarted computer. Same result/error message when I tried to add page numbers. I then trashed the entire document, and recreated it without the large drawings. Same message. What do I do now??? This is not something new...meaning, I've been creating PDFs from multiple files and numbering their pages for many years.

I'm running Adobe Acrobat 11.0.14, on Macbook Pro with OS 10.11.3. Help please?!?!?!

Hi gingeradams,

Would request you to please if anyone of the is saved on the network drive, please save them in local drive & then combine them .

On getting the same error, please recreate the document using the preflight tool.
