Conversion from Word 2016 to AA Pro DC dropped all images

This has never happened before. I'm converting a document from Word 2016 to PDF. I'm using the "Print" method: PDF/x-1a2001; using document fonts; custom 6X9" page. The spacing is all correct, but there are the images are missing. The first run through, 3 images (of many) were missing. Second run through, all the images are missing. What's up with that?

Why don't you simply use the PDFMaker facility of Acrobat within Word to create PDF/X-1a instead of distilling PostScript? That's the preferred method!

Also, what happens if you actually print the Word document to a PostScript printer? Images there or missing?

To answer your first question, CreateSpace requires a PDF/X-1a. (I frankly have no idea what PostScript is all about.)

I didn’t try to print the doc. I was trying to send it to the author in the most stable form possible. And I can’t send a document with blanks where images should be. I assumed that the format required by CS, would be the best choice.

What I am telling you is that there are multiple means by which you can create PDF from within Word.

The old, obsolete method is to “print” to Adobe PDF. What that does is cause Word to “print” to a PostScript driver which is then converted by Acrobat Distiller to PDF. That has a number of downsides.

Since you have Acrobat installed on your system, you could use preferred method which is to Save as Adobe PDF. This also allows you to specify PDF/X-1a but the PDF is directly created from the Word document. There is no intermediary PostScript and conversion to PDF.

And yes, obviously missing images are a problem. I'm simply trying to assist you to find a quick and reliable solution that meets your needs for PDF/X-1a and gets you all the content from your Word document.

I simply didn’t understand your terminology. I am always slightly confused by the multiple ways of going about things in Word. I did, later try the “save as” method that you suggest, and drilled in to find the settings I needed. That seemed to work. Thanks again, for furthering my education. I will close the discussion now.

1. What file type are the missing images?
2. Where do the images come from? Program?
3. How did you import those images into Word? Did you do it with Insert > Image from File… as it should be done or copy and paste from some other open file or web page which causes often problems with missing images?

3. Now this is a thought. Initially the images were all inserted from a file on my computer. However, in getting the placed properly on the page, I did end up cutting and pasting a few of them from one page to another. I wonder if that could have been the problem? However, the second time I tried to create the PDF, almost all the images were missing, and I only had to cut/paste/move a few of them.
