Editing in Acrobat auto creates Temp file on Hard Drive

Community Beginner ,
May 11, 2016 May 11, 2016

As soon as I click the edit button on any PDF document, to add a watermark or set security passwords for example, a temp file is created on my Macintosh HD.

The file name is C/\temp\dump.txt

The text file only lists:

TABLE INFORMATION:

=====================

Total tables found : 0

The more editing I do, the more that information is repeated.

Why is this even showing up and how do I get rid of it. I constantly have to drag these to the Trash to get rid of them.

This does not sound like normal behavior. Which version of Acrobat are you using? Where exactly do you find these files?

There is no drive "C:" on a Mac, so I assume this is something that was written for a Windows computer, and it's trying to save a debug file to "c:\temp\dump.txt". Do you have any 3rd part software installed in your copy of Acrobat (either a 3rd party plug-in, a custom stamp, or a custom script)?

It creates the file directly on the HD. Right next to the Applications, Library, System and Users folders.

I am running the latest version of Acrobat Pro DC 2015 and there is no 3rd party software installed with Acrobat.

So yeah, the drive C has me confused as well. I don't get why these files are even being created. I wish I could remember when it all started.

After a bit of sifting through bits and bytes, I found the stings that are reported (and the filename) in the TouchUp plug-in binary (/Applications/Adobe Acrobat DC/Adobe Acrobat.app/Contents/Plugins/TouchUp.acroplugin). I assume that something on your system is triggering this debug output (I've been running Acrobat on Macs for a long time, and I have never seen this).

I'll try to point somebody from the Acrobat support team to this thread, hopefully they will be able to tell you what you need to do in order to avoid these files.

Does the file at least go into the c:\temp directory on Windows?
