Exporting to Image File No Longer Works

New Here ,
Jun 29, 2016 Jun 29, 2016

Adobe Acrobat no longer will export to any type of Image file, either via the Save as... or Export > Image > Type menus. The process will take me all the way through to the Save menu at which point it used to show a Progress bar at the bottom of the screen as it was exporting the pdf to an image file of my choosing. Now, absolutely nothing happens when I click Save, no matter which Image type I select. I have lost an entire day worth of work searching online for solutions, and ultimately trying the age old "uninstall and reinstall the application" to no avail. Any suggestions? My extensive searches mostly pulled message boards with other save related issues to much older versions of Acrobat.

Thanks.

What's your version of Acrobat? What's your OS? Does this happen with all files, or just some?

Thanks for your reply, I realized I should have included this information from the get go. I was really frustrated when I made my initial post.

Adobe Acrobat DC (15.006.30174)

Windows 10 (64 bit)

Yes, it happens with any PDF, (or I should say nothing happens).

In a last ditch effort last night I created an Image from a PDF using Photoshop. I was trying to prove that it is Acrobat that is the problem, not Adobe products as a whole or some sort of 'codec' type of issue for image file types. It can export to other formats, just not to any image type. I specifically need jpg or tiff for my purposes; however, none of the image exports will work including png etc...

I have performed several Uninstall and Reinstall attempts with different means of install files, one through Creative Cloud, one via the website. I tried Acrobat Pro at one point as well. The thing that seems persistent is that my Settings and Preferences seem to remain throughout despite my attempts to flush them out during an Uninstall. This seems to me where the problem might lie, some off setting or something that went bad that needs to be set to 0, reinstalled etc, that remains in a file somewhere that I cannot locate. My next step I think will be to completely remove all Adobe products and Creative Cloud altogether and fresh install from there. I still need to figure out how to wipe all traces of settings and preferences though. Many applications like to leave a bread trail after they are Uninstalled as the developers feel Users would rather have previous settings repopulate the application when they reinstall. (Not me!)

Thanks.

Try running a repair installation (from Acrobat's Help menu). If that still doesn't work try using this tool: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Oh sorry, I forgot to address your reply here. I had tried the repair installation a few times prior to this as well. Both through the application and via the Add/Remove Programs menu in windows. If I am not mistaken they both perform the same operations.

Thanks.

There are two tools you can use after you uninstall to clean out any "crud" that the uninstall process left on your system. If you only wan to clean out Acrobat specific things, use the "Cleaner" tool: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs (This tool is only available for Windows, which is not a problem for you).

For CC related things, use the CC Cleaner: Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

Ok, thanks for the replies here. I ran the cleaner tools (I ran both) and the problem still persists. In fact when I reinstalled Acrobat my settings were still there. The tool did not clean up my settings and preferences like it was supposed to. The measure tool and crop tool were right in the quick access toolbar where I had placed them myself. Additionally, my settings for jpeg export were exactly the way I had left them prior to the cleaning. I intentionally left them so that I could tell if they had returned to defaults.

Just to be clear here:

I uninstalled ALL Adobe products (including Flash Player)

I restarted my PC

I ran the Cleaner Tools (multiple times; you can scrub the floor twice and it doesn't hurt right?)

I restarted my PC

I downloaded Creative Cloud and installed Acrobat DC only

I ran Acrobat DC and saw that my preferences had persisted, opened a PDF and attempted to export to an Image and nothing happened.

Thanks for the continued help here, it is appreciated.

Bring up the "Settings" dialog for the export as image function. You should see something like this:

2016-06-30_13-34-33.png

In the "Color Management" section, if RGB is set to "Embed Profile", turn that to "Off". Does that let you export to an image?

I have tried that one previously from another solution in another thread. It does not correct the problem. For the sake of clarity, I did it again just now to be sure.

Thanks.

That pretty much exhausts what I can suggest. If this would be a problem on my system, I would play around more with the different settings on the "Settings" dialog, but you may need help from Adobe.

Thanks for your time, I appreciate it. This will probably need to be escalated to Adobe, as I cannot afford any more time trying to find solutions to this.

Hi Jefwho ,

As per you post 2, you are using "Adobe Acrobat DC (15.006.30174)."  Adobe - Acrobat : For Windows  .Try installing latest update first restart the machine once the updates are installed and then try again.

I have a similar machine with Acrobat DC and windows 10. I just tried to export a pdf file to Jpeg and it worked fine.

Let us know if installing latest updates make any difference.

Regards,

Tariq Dar.
