garbled fonts when trying the optimize setting using adobe acrobat X1

HI

I am using Acrobat X1 on 10.8.5 and I can save to a Press-Ready PDF (PFD/X) fine but when I select Optimized PDF for smaller file size, I get garbled text. I have checked settings and all seems in check. Screenshot of garbled fonts
