How attach media to a button?

For various reasons I won't bore you with yet, I'm not satisfied with the interface in Acrobat's Multimedia Tool, so I'm trying to see what the interface will be like if I can attach my media to a button. But none of the documentation I can find on buttons tells me how to do that.

I have Adobe Pro Extended, Version 9, but I will upgrade if doing so would solve my problem.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

P.S. I am forced to choose a particular community to address this to. I wanted to say multimedia, or forms, or buttons, but those choices were not available. If I chose the wrong forum, could someone please direct me to the appropriate one?

P.P.S. My PDFs are not forms, but just regular documents.
