How do i change the font i am viewing in?

I am using Acrobat 9 and all of a sudden last week every pdf I open all the text is automatically changed to this horrible font (one I never use!).  It doesn't matter if its a document I have created, or one that someone has emailed to me or one that I open online.  All pdf's when opened are defaulting to this crazy font and I know for a fact its not the font the document was created in.  I thought when you created a document in pdf, or converted a doc to pdf that the fonts were 'locked in'.

Please help me change the view back to how the document was created - its driving me nuts!

Which ever font the document was created in - ie the font I am supposed to see, not one that my computer is defaulting to.  I thought that was the point of pdf, that it locks in the original fonts etc instead of each individual's computer changing everything around like Word does.

If a font used in a document is embedded in the PDF created from same, that will be what displays. If you don't embed the font in the PDF file (based on the joboptions you chose when you create the PDF file), font substitution will occur if the recipient of the PDF file doesn't have that font installed on their system.

Assuming the fonts are properly embedded in your PDF file and if they aren't properly being displayed, there is a possibility that your Acrobat 9 software installation is somehow damaged or corrupted. You might try running the “repair” process under the Help pulldown and see if that helps. Otherwise, as much as I hate this solution, you might try uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling your software.

By the way, it would be helpful is you showed us a screen shot of Acrobat using this “horrible font” — that may give us some more ideas as to what's actually going on.
