I cannot seem to delete pdf files under windows 10

What happens when you try to delete PDF files from your system?

Do you get any error message?

Are you not able to delete any of the PDF files?

Message is something like "file is open elsewhere and cannot be deleted".

This evening when trying to get the exact wording, "Documents" stops responding when I right click a pdf.

Adobe is a mess on W10.

I will go back to W8.1 as soon as I finish teaching my virtual class next week.

Have spent more than half a day with IT staff and Adobe trying to figure out a workaround (that does not include turning off the Preview pane, as I use that as part of the process of renaming/relocating/deleting files and it would be a serious handicap not to be able to use it).  I can delete all other file types except PDF. 

BTW, the volume of chatter on this topic on the internet is voluminous, and NO ONE can seem to figure out why Adobe doesn't have a fix after YEARS of complaints.  Why is this not on Adobe's radar?
