How do I type plain text onto a PDF that does not have fields? eg: I want to type my name.

I used to know how to do this, but I cannot find the feature anymore.

I want to:

  • Click somewhere on the PDF
  • and type some words.

For example, I printed a form to PDF and forgot to check a box.  Rather than re-print the form, I would like to type "X" in adobe pro, where the box is.  The form is non-responsive; there are no fields.

Where is the typewriter tool?  I am on Mac.

Hey,

The PDF I am working with is password protected, I am currently using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, but before, the typewriter tool used to allow things to be typed on regardless of protection. is there a way to still allow me to type even if doc if password protected?

The Add Text commenting tool (or any other tool, for that matter) would not and does not work if the security policy prohibits modifying the file by adding comments to it.

Thanks, maybe I was mistaken. Such a shame that we have to complete form by hand, kind of defeats the purpose of digital docs.

Agreed. But the one you need to complain to is the person who applied the security policy. They made it impossible to use their document properly (either on purpose or not).

You are right, and I have reached out. I was hoping that the person just wasn't technical, and the forum would give me a work around it. The person says the form is auto generated and he can't alter the settings, which sounds wrong to me. But oh well, life goes on. Thanks again for the clarifications.

If they at least know the password then it can be fixed after the fact, but it would require using Acrobat, not the free Reader.

No. This is wrong.

I have a similar question:  I want to have a small section of Python code that can be copied from the PDF with normal whitespace as in a text editor.  Currently, my text box looks good but if I select all the code, copy and paste, it goes in with no indents or extra newlines.  Useless, especially for Python.  Is there some sort of code widget that can do this?
