How to install Acrobat Pro DC (perpetual license) Upgrade from Acrobat Standard DC (perpetual license)?

In May 2016 I purchased and installed Acrobat Standard DC (perpetual license, v. 2015.006.30201) as a download from Dell Digital Delivery, running on Windows 10.  At that time I wasn’t certain that I’d need Acrobat Pro DC, but, as a precaution, I verified with Ivan in Adobe sales on 5/13/16 that Acrobat Pro DC Upgrade (perpetual license) would upgrade Acrobat Standard DC (perpetual license).

In late August I purchased Acrobat Pro DC Upgrade (perpetual license) as a DVD package (Part No. 65259139). Upon receipt of the package, I noted that the upgrade label stated that it would install only for licensed users of Acrobat Standard or Pro (version X.x or XI.x).  Before opening the package, on 8/31/16 I again verified with Kelly (x 9036) and his supervisor in the Adobe product sales support area that the aforementioned Part No. 65259139 will recognize and upgrade Acrobat Standard DC (perpetual license) to Acrobat Pro DC (perpetual license).

Two days ago I opened the package and attempted to install the upgrade, without success.  The Installer opens in the Adobe Acrobat DC (Classic) Setup mode—with no reference to Acrobat Pro DC—and it offers only the following Program Maintenance options:  Modify, Repair, or Remove.  The Modify option runs but leaves the existing Acrobat Standard DC (perpetual license) unchanged.  The Repair option requires the insertion of the Acrobat Standard DC (perpetual license) installation disk.  I have the 24-digit serial number but no disk, since Acrobat Standard DC (perpetual license) was downloaded.  I have not tried the Remove option, because there is no indication that the program will then install Acrobat Pro DC (perpetual license).

I’d appreciate hearing from Adobe technical support or from a customer who has successfully upgraded from Acrobat Standard DC (perpetual license) to Acrobat Pro DC (perpetual license) with the aforementioned upgrade package.

Hi MarkWalterFleming

I would recommend you to run Acrobat cleaner tool on your your system Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs  and then install Acrobat Pro DC from Download Pro or Standard versions of Acrobat DC, XI, or X link the one under "Acrobat DC serial number".

Now while activating you will asked to enter the serial number of Acrobat Standard DC followed by the serial number of Acrobat pro DC to activate the licence.

Feel free to reach us back if you have any query or concern.

Regards,
Aadesh

Hi Aadesh,

Thank you for your response and advice.  After I posted my original 9/16/16 message, I discovered a 9/14/16 post https://forums.adobe.com/message/9004311#9004311 by alanr2751636, who had encountered and solved the same problem.  As you suggested, he first uninstalled Acrobat Standard DC (perpetual) and then installed Acrobat Pro DC (perpetual).  However, in contrast to your activation sequence, he was initially prompted to enter the Acrobat Pro DC serial number, and at the end of the installation he was prompted to enter the serial number of the Acrobat product that was eligible for upgrade.  I followed his approach, using the Acrobat Pro DC (perpetual) Upgrade DVD that I had purchased, and successfully completed the installation.

I can offer an additional observation that has not been noted previously.  At the prompt to enter the serial number of the product eligible for the upgrade, Acrobat Standard DC was not listed as an option.  I selected Acrobat Standard v. XII, which I believe was eventually renamed Acrobat Standard DC.

I appreciate your timely response and help, Aadesh.

P.S.  For the attention of the Acrobat Product Manager, I’d like to suggest that it shouldn’t require a time-consuming search of Adobe user forums to learn the sequence of steps necessary to upgrade this mature application!
