you can install the acrobat x upgrade without installing acrobat 9.
start the acrobat x installation. you will be prompted for x'es serial number, first.
after entering x'es serial number you will be prompted (with a dropdown) to select the qualifying program (acrobat 9). select acrobat 9 and enter its (acrobat 9's) serial number.
enter the correct number at the correct time and installation will proceed.
make sure you've done more than 'try the link'. make sure you made the needed changes or exp

check your applications>adobe>acrobat x folder.
if it's not there, even though your issue may not seem related to the issue discussed in this link, try it:

I the file is not there but I already tried that from the link. Still having the same problems.

I am also trying to install 9 Pro and i have the upgrade to 10pro but I can't install 10 until I do 9.
