Could you please tell how Adobe keeps installing Reader?

Could you please tell what Operating System do you have - Windows/Mac?

Thank You!

I am running Windows 10, 64-bit.  I have no idea how Reader XI keeps getting installed.  My version of Pro X is set to not autoupdate as I was hoping that would stop Reader XI from constantly being installed.

Hi ,

I would like to mention that Adobe XI Pro will not try to install Reader when its updating itself. If you want you can uninstall Reader XI, you can do so by following below mention steps:

1- Right click Start button and select Programs and Features

2- Locate Acrobat XI and right click and select Uninstall.

Let us know if you face any issue.

Thank You!

I have uninstalled Reader so many times my head spins.  It all started with DC Reader, but then flipped to Reader XI.  I have removed every mention of Reader from the Registry when simply uninstalling it didn't work.  I never install Reader.  It just keeps showing up and taking over opening all PDF files.

Could you please post a screenshot of the screen when trying to open a pdf file?

Right Click any pdf file and select Open with.

Do you see Reader there?

Below is the screenshot:

Is your computer a part of a network, for example at an office?

I'd post a screen shot, but it's easier to just say that Reader isn't there at the moment because I uninstalled it right before I posted this.  It will be back someday soon, though.

Regarding being on a network, nope.  Stand-alone.  Just me using the computer.  Nothing pushes updates.

This has me seriously baffled.  I've been using computers for 40 years, can program in 5 languages, have used Adobe Acrobat since it first came out, etc.  But I have no idea how Reader keeps getting installed or how to stop it.

I've seen maybe 4 cases like this over the years. Very odd. Maybe a little by little approach will help you get info.

Try deleting the Reader folder in Program Files (x86). Now the next time Reader reappears note the creation date on the Reader folder. It won't tell you what but it will tell you WHEN. Repeat. Sam time each day? What time?

LATEST

I hadn't opened any PDFs in the last couple days, but Reader is back.  Showed up on 8/11/2016 at 10:15 PM.

It looks like Mozilla FireFox installed shortly before it.  About a half hour before that, Windows did an update.  Of course the install.log doesn't say anything about Adobe or Reader.
