Do you have Adobe Acrobat (not Reader)? If so, which version?

Yes, it's a good idea to update to the latest available version (11.0.13, in your case).

To convert a PDF file to Word open it in Acrobat and then go to File - Save As Other - Microsoft Word.

Ok, thanks I will try this - I will go to the Adobe Acrobat site....I know I can pay so much a month but I don't know if this if for something different.  I want to get  one off version preferably.  I thought this would be in the CS5 Web Premium suite, but mine is a few years old anyway.  Many thanks

CS5 is discontinued, you cannot buy it any more. CS6 can be purchased, but with difficulty as it is out of support - and it's a poor choice because it's already having issues on newer systems. I recommend Acrobat DC, which is available for purchase or subscription. I recommend subscription because it will stay up to date, and systems, browsers, Office are now changing faster than ever.

Thanks for this - I know my CS5 package is a few years old and realize how quickly things move on now!  I can open my document in Acrobat 9 actually and although it is not perfect it saves it as a Word document, but with glitches.  But it is ok.  I am sure Acrobat DC would be excellent for this but I hope I won't be having to convert too many pdf documents. Maybe one day! thanks.
