Images in PDF printed as solid black boxes when printing multi-pages per sheet.

I was trying to print a PDF document from Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (Version 2015.008.20082) off a black-and-white laser printer (HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn) with two pages per sheet and on both sides of the paper. However, the images in the PDF were printed off as solid black boxes.

If I just print one page per sheet and on both sides of the paper, the images were printed off correctly.

I have been searching the solutions online and experimenting with various settings:

  • By default, "Print in grayscale (black and white)" was not selected in the Print dialogue.
  • Also by default, "Simulate Overprinting" in the "Output" group in the Advanced Print Setup was not selected, and the preview of the page on the left was shown with the images as solid black boxes. When I enabled this option, the preview looked correct, but it did not change the print-off.
  • I also tried different color management settings, but no matter I selected "Acrobat Color Management", "Same As Source (No Color Management)" or "Printer Color Management", the problem persisted.

On the other hand, I printed a similar MS-Word 2013 document with two pages per sheet off the same printer and the output was fine, which made me believed that it was a setting in the Acrobat rather than the printer driver that was causing the problem. My computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise with Service Pack 1 if this helps.

Could someone help me with this? Many thanks in advance!
