I receive notifications there is an Adobe update to download, and wanting to stay current download them. After the download I find I have not only downloaded the Adobe but other software programs I was not aware of, which usually include extra tool bars and tracking software. Then I have to take time to remove the unwanted software. This is very worrisome because of the virus factor that comes into play when downloading.
Does anyone know how to block the extra unwanted programs before starting the updates?

It sounds as if you are downloading updates from a non-Adobe site. Stop doing that and the problem should reduce. Look with great caution at any pop-up that tells you it has an update that you need.
