Hello,

My PDF is passed accessibility through Acrobat but when running it through PAC I have stumbled across an issue I can not resolve been doing extensive research but can not the error is...

"f or uf key missing in file specification dictionaries"

Can anyone tell me how I can resolve this by editing PDF in Acrobat so that it will pass in PAC Checker.

Would be great if I could get some help.

Thanks everyone!

Hi there,

I did some research and found a solution for this issue.

Open acrobat DC >> go to 'Accessibility' >> Autotag document

Then 'Print Production' >> 'Preflight',

Then go to PDF/A compliance tab, then select 'PDF/A-3a' and select 'Analyze and Fix'.

Please run the document in PAC2, this will resolve the error 'F or UF key missing in file specification dictionary' .

I hope this helps.

Thanks.

Hi, I used preflight to fix the 'F or UF key missing in file specification dictionary'

It has locked my PDF from editing.....How do I undo this?

Did you convert it to PDF/A? Then you chose to convert to a final archiving format, and it's locked as normal for an archival file. But you can disable this in preferences: it's just a protection from mistakes, not a password or security lock.

I believe it is under Documents, look for PDF/A View Mode. Set to Never. This only affects you, it doesn't "unlock" the file. If you want to remove PDF/A status (which won't mess up the other stuff) you can use Preflight.

I am using Acrobat XI, not DC. Where is Documents.....I went to Preflight to Remove compliance A/3a. Document is no longer usable.

It is like it flattened everything. I will now redo the PDF from scratch. Sigh.............

Ok, I was looking in Preflight.

So I did that in Preferences...PDF-document set to Never.

Then went to preflight, , selected Remove PDF/a information,

No change. On the cloud if you want to look.

If you set the preference, you should not find PDF/A files have any particular protection from editing.

Converting to PDF/A-3a should not flatten anything. What is that you expect to be able to do, and what happens when you try?

This form was completed as accessible. You see the borders around cells in the table, those were form fields with calculations. Now it is as if there are no fields. This is what I meant by flat....it has disabled (flattened) fields so they cant be filled out.

So I restarted the PDF.

As for the PAC2 checker it should show you the problem in one of the windows.

For not seeing the fields, Are you sure you didn't shut off show fields?

As for an Accessible form you want to save as a PDF/UA. The tools in Acrobat DC are much better. PDF/3a is for archiving and keeping the file accessible to be read back later.

What is table Strokes. If it picks up a URL underline, in edit links, selest the link and move it to one side, it is likely a line created when you converted. You should be able to delete.

Lines drawn around table cells or under links do not have any semantic role (in other words: they add to the visual presentation, but in themselves they do not mean anything). Tagged PDF as defined in the PDF standard (ISO 32000-1, chapter 14.8) and also PDF/UA-1 (ISO 14289-1), the standard for universal accessibility in PDF documents, require that such non-semantic elements be marked as "Artifact".

The accessibility checker in Acrobat is not a very comprehensive PDF accessibility checker and just does not test for such non-semantic elements.

While it's not completely impossible to manually mark content as "Artifact" it would be excessively cumbersome and a waste of time, energy and ultimately somebody's money. Instead, use a tool that does it for you with a single click (such as "callas pdfaPilot" [free of charge fully functional demo for Mac and Win available], "axes4 QuickFix", or others; please not that I work for callas and my views may be biased regarding our products).

I have a few questions about this PAC 2. First, is I tagged the page number, footer, header in InDesign CC why PAC 2 won't recognize the tags and give me Content not tagged error. I can see in InDesign already tagged. Second, after these errors show up, I go in side Acrobat Pro/Content page/select the object and right click create Artifact...and later it miss up the page numbers. the section I changed page numbers it stay the same not continuous anymore. Last question,  I have lots tables inside the documents already tagged as table, why PAC 2 pick up the strokes of each cells as non tagged objects? I manual selected these strokes to create as Artifact, it looks ok now, but I wonder its this step will miss up the data inside the table cells,  Do anyone knows?

The problem with headers and footers and page numbers.

Screen readers read the page numbers if you set it in options.

Header and footer, is this a word doc converted, or created in Indesign?

If word, it is because the head and foot are under a layer....you dbl click in word to edit them, then click away..so they are under.

In indesign, select the text area of head and foot, then right click, try to Arrange and bring to top.

If you designed table in Indesign, Adobe sees the lines as content. See if you can have it not see it as content in indesign.
