Is there a downloadable PDF file for "Interapplication Communication API Reference" for version X or XI? I already have this document for version 8.0 of the SDK.

It didn't change. At all. Except for the DDE topic name.

If you're on macOS, you should be aware that Apple has introduced new restrictions on Apple Events in the new macOS 10.14 "Mojave", as described here:

https://www.felix-schwarz.org/blog/2018/08/new-apple-event-apis-in-macos-mojave

The upshot of this is that the user will see a message box asking for authorization for each app that wants to control Acrobat, and if they decline, they'll need to go into the System Preferences to reset the authorization.

I suspect that this is only the beginning of restrictions on Apple Events, as part of increased app sandboxing in macOS, which is becoming more like iOS in this regard.  Hopefully Adobe will come up with another means of IAC for Acrobat that doesn't rely on Apple Events.
