Hello,
I have a user at my company that just got Adobe Acrobat DC standard.
He his reporting that he cannot mark up a PDF with objects like arrows and lines.
He sent a screen shot, to show the OBJECTS area to be greyed out.
He thinks he needs the Pro version to get these features.
Is this true, or is there something we are missing? not doing? etc?
thanks!

This functionality is available in Pro and Standard - and even in the free Adobe Reader. However, the document you are trying to modify needs to allow changes. If the document is protected with security settings that do not allow comments/annotations to be added, then the tools will be grayed out. You can find out if a document allows changes by bringing up the document properties (Ctrl-D or Cmd-D), then go to the "Security" tab. If any restrictions are in place, they would be listed here.
It is also possible that the document in question is a document that was created in LiveCycle Designer. In this case, the document cannot be modified in Acrobat (besides filling in form fields), regardless of the security settings.

so my user check multiple docs, and the Security Method is set to No Security on all.
His comments:
None of the tools in the edit feature allow me to draw a straight redline via an object selection to mark-up dwgs, only notes, stickys, hi-lighters etc. The Object section is grayed out, I believe the Edit using the pencil shown below is where I would find the features I used to have with PDF Writer.
I can use the Pen beside the hi-lighter to do free hand but I used to be able to use objects to draw straight lines etc to create an Eng dwg
In the PDF.
In a picture he attached, we see the Object section on the right, but all greyed out.

Can you post the screen shot? What exactly is he referring to with the term "object selection"? Again, all these features are available even in the free Reader - as long as the document allows modifications. So whatever is going on has nothing to do with Standard vs. Pro.

These icons are active when you select a graphical object in the document.

He doesn't need the Pro version. The free Acrobat Reader can also add markups.
May be that the specific document is protected. He should try another document.

Solution found. I finally got to work with him in person. The tools he was looking for were under the Comment section. He found the line tools there.
thanks for everyone's input.
