I am having a problem with all of my Adobe programs (Indesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, Photoshop) where my Arial Narrow derivatives are not usable. In Acrobat XI v11.0.13, Arial Narrow shows as a font option but when I click to bold or italicize it, I get dots and a box which says "Cannot find or create the font 'ArialNarrow-Bold'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." In Photoshop CS6 v13.0.1, Indesign CS6 v8.1, and Illustrator CS6 v16.0.5, Arial Narrow is only an option as a subset of the Arial font. There are no options to attempt to bold, italicize, etc.
I attempted a repair on my Acrobat as I read it can sometimes need one to recheck the fonts. It did not help. I checked the registry of the computer and all of the fonts matched the font names - this makes sense as my fonts work perfectly in Word. I installed the programs on my home PC (Also Windows 8) and the fonts all worked perfectly on Acrobat XI v11(maybe 11.0, I don't exactly recall) and v11.0.14. I wasn't able to check v11.0.13 exactly but I assumed the problem should've been on an earlier or later version if that were the issue. I then copied the fonts from my font-not-working computer to my fully functional computer then installed them and everything still worked perfectly.
This appears to be an issue with Adobe programs as a whole not identifying the font family correctly. The font-not-working computer is my work computer where I do not have administrator privileges whereas my home computer obviously does. Could this be causing issues with some file? Is there somewhere I can check an Adobe recognized font listing? I just don't understand what could be different between my work computer and my home computer. An editor I collaborate with had a similar issue so while it is not my computer alone, it could be an agency-wide setting of some sort. Any thoughts on what to check next?
As mentioned above, I'm on Windows 8.1 on both machines and both computers should be reasonably up to date on Windows updates.
