So I have a full understanding:

You have a multiple page PDF document, and you want to move pages within that document to reorder the page order, correct?

Example:  Of the 20 pages, you want to move page 7 to page 13's location or vice versa?

What happens when you try to move a page around? Is there an error message? If so, what does it say?

Also, make sure that you're zoomed out enough so that the entire page is visible on the screen. That makes it easier to grab and move them in the Pages panel. Otherwise you might move just the zoom window.

I have zoomed out to full page view but I Cannot move the thumbnail of any page no matter where I grab it ! .. The document is not locked and on another workstation I can move the pages of the same document easily.

Can you perform other edits in the document? Can you remove a page? Can you add text or modify text? What is displayed when you bring up the "Document Information" dialog (Ctrl-D) and then go to the Security tab?

I have a pdf of several hundred pages and I want to put those pages in chronological order.  Thumbnail is to small to see the doc's dates.  Is it possible to create a folder for each month and then drop the pages into their proper month folders? After this it will be easier to drag and drop the smaller set of pages relating to each month into their order.  I just don't see if it is possible to segment/drag pages into different folders from a single pdf.

Thanks!

If the dates are located in a consistent location (and are not a part of an image), then it might be possible to automate this task using a custom-made tool. If you wish you can send me some sample pages via email (try6767 at gmail.com) and I'll let you know if I think it's doable, and if so, how much it will cost to develop such a script.

Dates are not in the same location on the doc pages nor are they in the file names...

As Try67 said, it's tricky to grab the page in the right spot when you are not zoomed out completely. Take a look here for more information about where you can grab a page (this is for duplicating pages, but the mechanism is the same): Duplicate a Page in Adobe Acrobat - KHKonsulting LLC

If this does not resolve your issue, you make sure that you are opening the file in Adobe Acrobat, and not the free Adobe Reader. Both look similar and if you have both installed, the wrong application may take over when you try to open a PDF file (this can be changed in Acrobat's or Reader's preferences).
