My ability to add a signature in Acrobat XI has vanished

New Here ,
Jul 16, 2016 Jul 16, 2016

I have Acrobat XI Professional, and after the last update, my ability to add my scanned signature to documents has vanished.  I'm offerred Adobe cloud for $9.99 a month.  But I only need to sign 2 to 3 documents a month.   I guess I can just add my signature manually from a file every time I need it, but this is really a horrible thing to do to us.   Or have I got it wrong?

Hi KenK1

Please let us know the dot version of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and OS you are using.

Also share the exact steps you to add signature to your documents.

Do you get any error message when you try to add signature?

Regards,

Meenakshi

Thank you. I have Adobe XI Pro 11.0.07.

When I open a document and select “fill and sign” from the menu on the upper right, I then click on “place a signature.” Now, I’ve already put a scanned signature into adobe.

IT then tells me to drag a rectangle for my signature which is normal.

But then a box pops up only allowing me to use an existing digital ID or create a new one. I can’t use digital id’s. I’m an attorney and some documents MUST have pen and ink signatures. (Scanned is OK). I need to be able to place a can of my signature on the document. But that’s not an option any more.

Thanks.

I do not get any error message. There’s just no option to add a scanned signature.

Can you update to latest Acrobat 11.0.17 version, and see if the problem exists for you or not? If still you're not able to e-sign scanned signatures can you once try clearing the current signature, and then creating a new electronic-signature (not digital signature) and see, if the problem goes away? We've not changed any behavior in the latest Acrobat XI updates, so it should continue to work like before for you but something else is causing this function to not work properly in you case.

Also, is this file specific or happens across all files? If file specific, could you share the file with us for debugging this problem (use Sent & Track service in Acrobat XI to share the uploaded doc with us).

Thanks Vishal:

The problem started when I upgraded to 11.017. I can’t clear the current signature because I can’t access it at all. It happens across all files.

I added a screen shot of what I get. The signature commands are completely missing (other than the digital ones).

It was as an attachment. I’ll try to cut and paste below.

It came back as an attachment anyway. Here it is again.

I have attached a screen shot twice. It was a png file. When I open it , it is clearly a screenshot.

I’ve done attachments numerous times. This time, I opened the png file in acrobat, and attached the pdf file.

Don’t you see the attachments that I’ve sent over both times? Here is the 3rd attachment. The last ones were .png files. This one is a .pdf file.

Thanks.

Thanks.  I was responding by email, but not on the forum, which may be why you could not see what I was posting, but after I connected with Adobe using Adobe connect, the issue was resolved.  It appears that my signature was unavailable, and the little arrow off to the right of the signature was not apparent to me.  Once I clicked the arrow, cleared my signature, and re entered it, it worked fine.  This seems to be a separation of the digital certificates and scanned signature properties in this version of Adobe; before they were in one command, now they are two.  The stored signature just clogged up the mess in the conversion.  I don't use digital signatures, but REALLY like using the scanned signature.  Thanks.  The issue is solved.

LATEST

the unsigning process does not work.  the clear signature no longer works.  I do no want to enter all the data in the form again.  why has this been screwed up?  It used to work just fine.

I have already upgraded to 11.0.17. Since there’s no signature to add, I can’t clear the signature. I can’t create a new electronic signature because all of the options regarding electronic signatures have vanished.

This is on all filed. The command to do Anything with an electronic signature is missing entirely.
