My Windows 10 Pro operating system will not allow me to keep Adobe Acrobat as my default printer. Every time I restart my system, it defaults back to the office printer.
One of the possibilities for your issue is a new dubious feature, on by default in Windows 10, that changes your default printer to be whatever you printed on last.
Go to the Windows 10 PC Settings and from there, select Printers & Scanners. Note the option of Let Windows manage my default printer. Make sure this option is set to Off which is not the default. Once you turn this option to Off, then set the Adobe PDF driver as your default. Windows won't muck with it anymore!

Hi gwidmayer ,
This behavior is possible due to the Group Policy, Please consult your IT to check if there are any Group policies implemented.
Thanks!

Hi Shivam, Thanks for your help. I'm the IT guy and no changes were made to our Group Policy. This only started happening about a week ago. It worked fine for months. What else could be happening? Also, if the Group Policy was changed by an automatic update, which setting should I look for?

Hi,
I am not sure about the group policy implemented but you can check out these article : GP Preferences: Add a new printer, set as default | Group Policy Team Blog and this one - Set the default printer via Group Policy - Windows - Spiceworks
Thanks!

Thank you! Where do I find the "User Configurations" drop-down on our Server?

Actually, I need the default to be a local client-side instance of Adobe Acrobat. This won't work from our Win2008 Server.

PS: Yes, this is obscure and a pain, but Adobe had no say-so in terms of this option and cannot by itself turn if off or on!

Dov,
You're a genius! Thank you for instructing me on the work-around for this. I wish the folks in tech support at Microsoft knew about this!!
