Opacity box enlarges when selecting a text box

I recently upgraded my operating system from 10.6.8 to 10.11.6.

I've kept Acrobat 9.5, because I like the arrangement of tools much better than in later versions.

However, with the later OS a new problem emerges. When I have the Properties Bar displayed and click on a text box or callout box, all the second row tools stay the same size but the opacity box becomes 10 times larger! The ribbon containing it increases as well. Even when there's no current selection, once the Opacity box balloons it stays gigantic throughout the work on that pdf.

This causes the whole page to jump around while I wait for it to settle down.

I know of three other people who have had this problem, so I'm hoping that others have found a solution. I've explored removing the opacity box but can't see how to do that; the properties bar seems on/off, no customization.

Thanks for your help.

Kirsten

I assume you are referring to Mac OS X versions when you say 10.6.8 and 10.11.6. Acrobat 9 is not supported and not compatible with Mac OS X 10.11, and it's not surprising that you are running into problems. There is nothing you can do except downgrade your operating system again (or run the older version in a virtual machine, but in this case, you would need to get the server version of 10.6 - only that can be run in a VM), or to upgrade your Acrobat version to Acrobat DC.

Thanks for the information, and so quickly! Unfortunately 10.6 is no longer supported by anybody, so I must stay with the more current operating system.

There are issues with later Acrobat versions, namely that I couldn't dock the Properties Bar and I use that all the time--it would be a huge time suck to have to navigate to it each time. I know other people have expressed unhappiness about this. Has that issue been resolved? If so, I might upgrade my Acrobat. Thanks!

No, you cannot dock the properties bar, but it's easy to show and hide it using Cmd-E

Thank you. Would I need to key that shortcut every time I needed to access a textbox or callout box, etc., or would it remain open until I saved the document? We can spend hours commenting on pdfs at work, and having that properties bar available is crucial.

It will stay active until you hide it, or until you quit Acrobat. You can give it a try by installing the trial version of Acrobat DC.
