Opening PDF in IE11 with Adobe Acrobat DC only gives save option? How can I make it open in the browser?

I am running Acrobat Pro DC, and I can no longer view PDFs through Internet Explorer 11.  I have already followed the recommended steps (making sure the add-in is enabled), but every time I click a PDF link, Acrobat opens and asks me which file to open, and the screen in IE goes gray.  The only way I can open an internet-based PDF is to save it and then open it in Acrobat.

Hi Lisa,

If you have already checked Manage Add-ons under Internet Explorer than try to Reset the browser by going to Internet Options > Advanced > Reset. Make sure to backup your bookmarks and settings.

Thanks,

Abhishek

Thank you for your suggestion. I have tried resetting the IE. I've gone so far to reimage the same machine and reset the settings. I've also tried it on different machines with the same results.

Hi Lisa,

Please try the following:

Open Internet Explorer

Go to Manage Add-ons

Click on the 'Show' dropdown and select Run without permission

From the populated list enable Adobe PDF Reader add-on.

Then try to open PDF in browser

Thanks,

Abhishek

When I categorize with the Run without permissions in the Manage Add-on box, Adobe PDF Reader is not in the list . It does show up if I select All add-ons.

LATEST

the setup had Adobe Reader XI with the Adobe Acrobat DC and it wasn't working.

I removed the Adobe Reader XI and installed Adobe Reader DC and then it worked successfully!

Thank you so much for your help!
